Why RIHA

Morocco has a memory. We want to give it a scent — and to set out, from the very first day, what we will not allow ourselves to do.

By La maison RIHA

Every place has a scent, and every scent tells a story. A lane in the medina at dawn, a courtyard after the water has passed, a workshop where leather is worked: these olfactory landscapes change with the seasons, the trades and the generations, and they often vanish without a trace.

RIHA — رِيحَة, "scent" — is born in Fes with an ambition that is simple to state and long to achieve: to document these landscapes, preserve them in an open library, and translate them into olfactory creations.

What we do

We will send noses into the field, gather testimonies with the consent of those who share them, consult archives, and then a perfumer will interpret these materials. Every step will be published.

What we will not do

We will never claim that a composition exactly reproduces the smell of a city. We will not announce any visit, testimony or partner that does not exist. We will not sell any creation that is not truly finished.

This is why the creations shown today are leads: their accords are hypotheses, and each record states precisely what has been done — and what has not yet been done.
